UMMCL (Unnati Multi-state Multipurpose Cooperative Limited), is a worker owned cooperative operating in 8 states across India. They produce, process and market various agricultural commodities such as organic candies, powders, juices, pickles and more. The procurement is done using their network of farmers/collectors who hand it over to primary processing units which increases the shelf life of the products and hence increasing the income of everyone in the supply chain; further manufacturing of products and labelling is done by secondary processing units.
While there are many agritech startups providing innovative solutions, none provide an effective platform that gives them the kind of support a cooperative can; my role as a designer has been to understand the needs of stakeholders as well as the client to create a platform that empowers farmers with a transparent workflow.
